The Automated Breast Ultrasound can be used as a complementary examination to mammography in breast cancer screening in women with dense breast tissue whose mammographic screening findings are normal or benign.
How is it implemented?
The examination is carried out while the patient is in supine position. The lotion is applied onto the breast and the appropriate ultrasonography device (probe) used to obtain the image automatically performs a horizontal scanning after it is placed on the breast. In this method, 3 separate images (2 or 4 depending on the case) are obtained from the breast. A retrospective evaluation of the breast is also possible through the obtained 3D image and data set.
During the procedure, the scanning procedure by the device is performed under the control of a technician and the 3D images obtained are evaluated by a breast radiologist.
Which disease is it used to diagnose?
