EUS (Endoscopic ultrasonography)

EUS is a procedure which produces images of the internal organs using specialist equipment developed for digestive system endoscopies.

Which diseases does it treat?
This procedure is used to examine lesions which are just beneath the surface of the digestive system as well as those which have developed in neighboring organs (stomach, intestines, gallbladder, liver, and pancreas). The EUS procedure enables doctors to take a tissue sample from tumors in the digestive tract and those which originate in neighboring organs while cysts can be drained.

How is it implemented?
It is used in the same way as the classic endoscopy. It can be used on both the upper and lower digestive systems.

What are its features?
It is superior to other ultrasound methods in the diagnoses of cancers of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, colon and bile ducts and the evaluation of the vascular structures of these organs.
